Welcome to another exciting school year at Fox River Grove Middle School. Our middle school strives to have each and every child succeed academically and to build characteristics of good citizenship. As a professional staff, we have adopted a way of conducting school business and how we work with all school community members that we view as a “no excuse” approach to education. We call this our “Ritz-Carlton Model”. You can see this on our main website.

As part of this model, communication between our school and each child’s home is a valuable component to helping each student succeed. Our goal is that each phone-call, email or note is followed up within a 24-hour period. We feel that it is important to keep positive lines of communication open for the benefit of our students.

Success in life and school comes with proper planning and preparation. It is vital to student success that parents work with them each evening/weekend on homework, organizational skills and preparing for classroom assessments (tests/quizzes). As much as we would hope that students are becoming self-reliant, the middle school years are critical to creating effective study habits and organizational habits that keep them ahead of the game rather then behind the eight ball. We will never get these years back, so as an school/home partnership, together we can help our children in a collaborative and caring manner.

Outside of the individual communications that you have with your child’s individual teachers, we will be communicating with parents through email for all of our usual Friday Packet information items. This includes anything that would normally be sent home to a grade level or an entire school. Our PTO and other non-profit community organizations will also be using this means of communicating with parents. If it is in electronic format, we will be emailing it to you. For those parents who do not have email access, we will still be sending home information each Friday. Please be sure to sign-up for our electronic communication list serve located on the main website page so that you can help us optimize the school-home partnership.

Each of our extra-curricular activities are self-funded by those that are participating. In order to accomplish this and keep extra-curricular fees at a reasonable rate, we have solicited parent/community volunteers for many positions. We always are in need of additional help, so if you or someone you know are interested in helping with extra-curricular activities, please fill out a volunteer application or contact the middle school office to find out if and/or where help is needed. Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration.

If you have any questions regarding the middle school, please feel free to contact me through e-mail at mahaffyt@dist3.org, call me at 847-462-2324 or stop by for a face-to-face conversation. Calling ahead would be appreciated so that we can make sure that I am available. Have a Great Year Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

Middle School Principal
